Lake Forest, CA, April 7, 2009 — My Cancer Mommy, the first ever children’s book of its kind, will be available for purchase beginning April 12, 2009. Written by Taylor Rice when she was just 7-years old, (she is 8 now), My Cancer Mommy is a breakthrough book that speaks to kids from a kid’s voice and like Taylor’s mom did for her, takes the hands of children of other cancer mommies and walks them through the scary journey of cancer, from diagnosis to recovery.

Taylor was only seven months old when her mom, DeAnna was diagnosed with breast cancer for a second time (DeAnna’s first diagnosis came when she was just 29 years old). When Taylor was seven years old, her mom was diagnosed with the BRCA cancer gene and was diagnosed with her third cancer.

“I didn’t know what cancer was, but it scared me.” Taylor says.

After finishing the text of My Cancer Mommy, Taylor and DeAnna set about the difficult task of finding the right illustrator that could capture the warmth and positive message the book offers. After scouring various sources and going through dozens of responses to their ad on Craigslist, many from very talented illustrators, one truly special artist caught their eye. A young woman, Olga Matushkina from Barnaul, Russia came upon Taylor’s and DeAnna ad. Olga sent them some beautiful drawings which completely captured the heart and emotion of the book. Somehow Olga knew of Taylor’s and DeAnna’s affinity for hearts, their favorite colors and even the way their furniture was laid out! To make things even better, Olga agreed to illustrate My Cancer Mommy for free.

My Cancer Mommy will be available in hard cover beginning April 12, 2009 for a Suggested Retail Price of $24.95, including shipping and handling. Proceeds help support Moms with Cancer. About Taylor Rice:

Taylor Nicole Rice was born in Chula Vista, CA. Taylor was only seven months old when her Mom, DeAnna, was diagnosed with breast cancer for a second time. When she was seven years old, her Mom was diagnosed with the BRCA cancer gene and was diagnosed with her third cancer. Taylor lives with her mom DeAnna and her dad, Tim in Lake Forest, CA, along with their three dogs, Ruby (Black lab), Bella (Mini border collie) and Papa (Teacup long hair Chihuahua). She’s currently a 3^rd Grader at Cordillera Elementary School in Mission Viejo, CA.

Started by DeAnna Rice, Moms with Cancer is a 501c3 non-profit organization whose primary goal is addressing the special needs of Moms dealing with cancer treatments and recovery.

A cancer diagnosis can financially and emotionally devastate some families. The extra deductibles, co-pays, tests, and medications are very costly.
